Dear FCPS Community:
Today, FCPS staff distributed nearly 3,000 Chromebooks and 1,000 Wi-Fi hotspots to our students. We appreciate the hard work of staff and the patience of families who waited for these devices.
We know there are still students who may need a device. We took the name of anyone who was at one of the high school distribution sites today and was unable to receive a device. If you were unable to get to a high school today and your student needs a device, please contact your school's principal as soon as possible.
Next week, principals will review the names of those needing devices, and we will determine how we can best distribute devices to students on Wednesday, April 1. Please watch for more details on this distribution next week.
Please note that elementary students who already have a device at home (other than a phone) that can connect to the internet and open up a web page are not eligible to receive a Chromebook on loan. The supplies FCPS is loaning are for those without access to devices in their homes and for those who do not have internet access.
Remember that distance learning will take many forms, including paper packets. Many of our schools are starting with paper assignments, knowing that it may take a while to get students ready for online work. Our principals and teachers will work with individual students and families to support you with distance learning.
We will send information early next week regarding the next distribution of technology devices on Wednesday, April 1.
Sincerely, Dr. Terry Alban, Superintendent Frederick County Public Schools
