FCPS is seeking parents (of current FCPS students) and community members to participate on a Reconsideration Committee to review library books that citizens have requested be removed from school libraries. Each participant will be responsible for reading two library books and attending several meetings over the course of the committee's work.
Meeting Schedule: All meetings are on Thursdays in the Central Office Board Room located at 191 South East St. in Frederick.
FCPS Regulation 500-39 requires that community members (who may also be a parent) be "knowledgeable in the subject area" of any books or materials that are being reviewed. In this case there are 35 books that complainants believe are inappropriate for use in public school libraries. The subject matter of the books vary. Some possible areas of expertise may include library sciences, constitutional law, or developmental psychology; however that is not an exhaustive list.
Parents and community members can apply to serve on the committee by completing this application form by December 9, 2022.
