FCPS has appreciated hearing from the public regarding our Central Review Team process and any decision to shift a classroom, cohort or school to virtual learning for a brief period of 5-7 days. We are committed to being transparent with our community. Here are important updates for you:
The existing dashboard with case numbers will be updated daily (Please note that data is entered daily in our schools. If a case has not yet been entered, it may not show on the dashboard until the next day)
By adding these metrics to the dashboard, the community will know which schools are under review. The team has determined that the most characteristics that require analysis include the student positive case rate and the staff positive case rate. When these numbers are above 5%, the team is taking a closer look. These metrics alone do not initiate a move to virtual instruction. The team also reviews a school’s operational capacity, average attendance and school transmission and outbreaks as appropriate. Trends in data are considered, and additional information may be sought from the school’s principal. Again, a comprehensive and multi-measures approach is most appropriate and is endorsed by the Maryland State Department of Education.
Please see Decision-making for Considering a Transition to Virtual Instruction for more information.
Beginning today, we will post classrooms, cohorts or schools that are shifting from in-person to virtual learning on the FCPS website. In addition, we will send these communities notifications indicating their status.
