A Message from Dr. Terry Alban
Let’s keep moving forward
It was my honor to visit Frederick High on Thursday and visit with students who are just a few weeks away from graduating as part of the Class of 2021. Each year I visit with seniors at each high school to hear feedback on their experiences as an FCPS student. It was wonderful to know that these seniors will be able to experience in-person ceremonies in their high school stadiums. That’s progress.
We have come so far, and we have so many reasons to be optimistic. As of Tuesday, 61 percent of FCPS students were utilizing in-person learning. That percentage will increase when the fourth term begins on Tuesday as we welcome more students back into buildings.
Thanks to the determined efforts of our staff, families who prefer remote learning for students are able to access that option as well. COVID-19 vaccinations are now available to anyone ages 16 and older who want them.
We all want to keep pushing forward. We all want our lives to return to normal. And while our progress as a community should be celebrated, we must take great care to ensure we don’t have to take a step back. We have now been grappling with this pandemic for more than a year, and it’s still very much with us.
Please keep following all health protocols. Adhering to the health and safety protocols recommended by the Frederick County Health Department, the Maryland Department of Health, and the CDC have led to a successful implementation of the hybrid learning model.
Let’s continue to work together to minimize the risk of spreading COVID in our schools and community.
In the meantime, we will keep doing our part to instruct students wherever they are learning and keep you updated on the latest. This newsletter will continue weekly through the rest of the school year as a resource for our entire community.
Let’s stay safe and keep moving forward.
