A Message from Dr. Terry Alban
In this 2nd edition of the Superintendent’s Update, I’m happy to share with the FCPS community that the School Reopening Plan that our dedicated administrators and staff prepared received approval from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) on September 20.
Although our plan was approved, we will continue to update it with any new guidance or decisions by the state or local Board of Education. For additional information, please review the latest FCPS Plan for Reopening and Advancing Forward.
The Maryland Together: Maryland’s Recovery Plan for Education defined 13 requirements for districts to include in recovery plans. The MSDE’s rubric to evaluate the level of completeness and the degree to which content met the requirements used ratings of Comprehensive, Acceptable, Developing or Unable to Be Rated. FCPS received ratings of Comprehensive or Acceptable in all 13 requirements. For more detail, please visit the Maryland Together: Maryland’s Recovery Plan for Education.
Though FCPS is still in a virtual learning environment, we have started to bring small groups of students back into our school buildings to receive face-to-face learning opportunities. On September 24, Governor Larry Hogan and State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Karen Salmon visited Waverley Elementary and the FCPS Career and Technology Center. They witnessed our awesome staff working with some of our small student groups under social distancing and mask guidelines. See some of the photos captured during the visit.
Please feel free to share your comments and recommendations via Superintendent@FCPS.org. I invite you to follow me via Twitter @FCPSMDSuper.

IMPORTANT Student Information Update!
The Student Information Card that FCPS sends home with each student the first day of school has moved online as the Returning Student Registration Form. Schools use the contact information parents provide anytime there is an emergency, question or concern. The email address parents provide creates the parent FindOutFirst account for essential school email messages. This year's form arrived via email from PowerSchool, with a weekly reminder email sent to parents who have not yet completed the form. Reminder emails are sent on Wednesdays. All parents should complete the Returning Student Registration Form. When completed, school registrars update the student's record in eSchool. This, in turn, updates the parent's FOF email address. Parents who have not received an email from PowerSchool with the link to update student information for this school year should contact the school as soon as possible.
