Dear Community of Learners,
It is amazing to bring in a new year at Monocacy Valley Montessori! Our Annual Lottery Enrollment for the 2016-17 school year has begun. If you know of a family who might be interested in having their children attend our school, please encourage them to go to the MMCI website and sign up for the Lottery which will be held in March. And, equally important, please have them attend a School Tour. Our education is delivered in such a unique manner, it is helpful if parents recognize the difference before their children enroll. Information on school tours can be found on our school website: http://education.fcps.org/mvmpcs/
Report cards will be issued soon and it is a great time to reflect on how you support your student. As a parent or caregiver, it is a good time to review the support experiences you provide for your child that:
1- reduce stress in your student’s life and helps them to cope with concerns
2-foster healthy social connections with engaging play
3- experience vigorous physical exercise daily
4-increase the complexity of skills in a step by step manner
5- include repeated practice of skills over time
These critical life experiences support the development of executive functioning and self-regulation.
For a young child this might include not only placing the silverware on the dinner table, but the water glasses, napkins and condiments. For an older child this might include emptying all the trash cans in the house and placing a new liner in the can. As a society we have come to understand that completing the day to day routine life skills, completed in a timely fashion, can have a calming effect on the child and the entire family. In the hustle and bustle of experiences, routine becomes even more important, providing the brain with a known experience.
Peace and wonderful family experiences are my wish for all in 2016!
Ms. Nancy
