Thanks for your donations for the 3rd UMS Carnival! Your donations will add a lot of excitement and fun to the Carnival. If you haven’t sent your donation here are some ideas:

Are you satisfied with your child’s school? To help us do our best for your child, please fill out the quick, online* Family and Community Involvement Survey May 5-19.
It’s easy! It’s confidential! And there’s no need to print or mail anything.

- Click the survey icon on the home page (English or Spanish)
- Complete the survey, click “submit,” and you’re done!
You may fill out the survey once for each school at which you have a child.
If you don’t have computer access at home or work, please check with the school office about taking the survey here. Or use a public computer at a library near you.
At FCPS parents count. Your support goes a long way in building a first-class school system.
Please remember the May 19 deadline!
*Schools also have some paper versions in English and Spanish for parents who don’t have Internet access.
Ettiquette, Communication Table Manners Camp
Give the gift of good manners. If you were unable to make the class this year at Urbana Middle, there will be an Etiquette, Communication and Table Manners camp held at Urbana Elementary School this summer for ages 8-14. This camp is a wonderful and interactive way for middle schoolers to learn lifetime skills. Learn how to make great first impressions, communicate with all kinds of people, make good choices and much more. See the flyer posted on our website. UMS Talent Show
The SGA will be hosting a Talent Show on Friday, May 7th from 6:00 until 9:00 pm. We will be selling tickets at school during each grade level lunch shift starting on Thursday, April 29th through Thursday, May 6th. Tickets will cost $5.00. Unfortunately, due to a limited amount of seating, we will be unable to sell tickets at the door. We will have 25 student acts including, singing, dance, instrumental and musical show themes. Please come out and support this entertaining evening. All proceeds go toward the Eighth grade dance and end of the year carnival!!!!
Urbana Students will Head to National Competition this June
Students of both Urbana Middle and High School have advanced and will compete in the National History Contest at University of Maryland in June.Michael Mitchell, Arun Kulkarni, and Amil Sahai will compete in the Junior Group Performance with their project, “National Parks: A Walk in the Woods with John Muir”. Katie Marshall, Rebecca Mitchell, and Rachel Petro will compete in the Senior Group Performance with their project, “Women in Space? Preposterous! Innovation of WISP.
Congratulations! This is the first time that UMS students have qualified for the NHD contest.
Both Michael and Rebecca Mitchell are the son and daughter of Tom Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell is one of the music teachers here at the school.
Urbana Middle Wins First in State in KMO Tournament!
The Urbana Middle School Knowledge Master Team (KMO) became the Maryland State Champion for this spring’s competition. They scored their highest ever, with a score of 1395 points. They smashed their old record of 1283. They ranked 100th of 649 teams (top 15%).
UMS KMO Team Members are: Smaraki Dash, Inala Shreya, Regu Nammalwar, Bhaswanth Potarlanka, Jhanavi Sivakumar, Anmol Srivastava, London Tarr, Tara Blair, Lena Boyer, Arun Kulkarni, Kritika Mahajan, Bryan Morrison, Hamzah Raza, Amil Sahai, Hirsh Shah, Hannah Stauffer, and Greyson Strouse. Also, Archit Gupta was an invited participant.
This group of students has been competing together for the last three years. They have worked with three teachers; Mr. Adamiak, Ms. Petruzzelli and Ms.Griebenow.
Students work as a team to answer questions. They receive bonus points if they answer the questions in less time. The questions are in several categories including math, geography, history, and more.
18,811 students participated comprising 1360 teams in 49 states plus China, Costa Rica, Germany, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, Serbia, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.
